No plea bargain for the 26-year-old who, on March 19, 2024, ran over and killed Luca Furcas, a 37-year-old medical specialist from Cagliari, with his car in Rome.
The suspect, through his lawyer, proposed to the preliminary hearing judge a sentence of 3 years and 6 months in prison , but the request – reports Corriere Roma – was rejected .
Now the 26-year-old will have to present a new plea bargain proposal that does not take into account the mitigating circumstances - which the preliminary hearing judge did not recognize - or choose whether to be tried with an abbreviated trial or an ordinary trial.
According to the reconstruction of the investigations, on the day of the tragic accident Luca Furcas , who was attending La Sapienza University to complete his studies in Medicine, was jogging in the Capital, along Via Pinciana, when, while crossing the street, he was hit by the car driven by the 26-year-old (who later turned out to be drunk), who was speeding at 100 kilometers per hour . The impact was terrible, with the 37-year-old thrown from dozens of meters and the rescue efforts unfortunately proved useless.
