“ We died there, on the spot ”. These are words spoken by Nazia Shaheen, mother of Saman Abbas , the eighteen-year-old Pakistani woman who disappeared from Novellara (Reggio Emilia) on April 30, 2021, in a conversation with her other son, intercepted at the end of August 2021.

After the wiretapping of the young woman's father ( "I killed her", he said ), the mother, who speaks of herself and her husband Shabbar, also arrives. The phone call is found in the folder of the trial that will start in February 2023 in Reggio Emilia, which sees five of Saman's family members accused of murder and body concealment : the two parents - fugitives in Pakistan - the two cousins, Ikram Ijaz and Nomanhulaq Nomanhulaq , and the Danish uncle Hasnain, the latter three arrested between France and Spain.

The sentence by Nazia Shaheen is extrapolated from a conversation via Whatsapp on 30 August 2021. It is the boy - the minor brother of Saman, now entrusted to a protected community , ed - who calls the Pakistani user used by his parents, who fled to their homeland on May 1st, the morning after the alleged murder of his daughter.

Saman's brother is a key witness of the crime: heard on June 18, 2021 in a probative incident, he accused the relatives of the murder and indicated his uncle Danish as the material perpetrator, which is also confirmed by the story of one of the two investigated cousins, Ijaz, a a cellmate.

Ijaz in her story describes the last moments of Saman's life, who is held still by Ijaz himself and by the other cousin Nomanhulaq while his uncle Danish strangles her with a rope . Then the arrival of a sixth person, unidentified, who helps the others to finish the young woman, put her body in a sack, load it on a bike, dismember it and throw it into the Po.

Saman was "guilty", for his relatives, of wanting to live and live freely, a freedom not in keeping with Pakistani dictates. "Guilty" of loving a person other than the one to whom her parents had promised her as a bride .

THE REPENTED BROTHER AND THE PROPOSALS OF REVENGE

The girl's brother also talks to her mother about two other people in the family, not investigated, who in her opinion would have instigated the father in organizing the murder. He is also angry with his uncle and cousins , so much so that he meditates revenge, while his mother tries to calm him by asking him to "leave them alone". "I have not forgotten anything - he relaunches -, I will straighten these two ".

The boy also says he is " repentant " when talking to his mother, because according to what can be seen from the conversation, he too would have been the one to hear and read the messages that Saman exchanged with his boyfriend. And to show that photo of the kiss between Saman and her boyfriend , shared on social networks by the 18-year-old, which would have sparked the "death sentence".
