The monocratic court of Rome acquitted the four people who ended up on trial for the incident which, in April 2019, had involved a competitor of the show "Ciao Darwin".

Gabriele Marchetti , 54 years old at the time, had suffered serious injuries after a fall while playing rollers, and remained paralyzed .

The judge , at the end of the deliberation session, today dropped the charges against the defendants "because the fact does not exist", also accepting an objection presented by the defenders. On trial, among others, two representatives of the Rti company, producer of the broadcast on Canale 5.

Last March, the Public Prosecutor had obtained the indictment for the various allegations of very serious personal injuries and violation of workplace safety regulations. Sent to trial by the Gup : Sandro Costa and Massimo Porta, both from Rti , Massimiliano Martinelli , manager of the company that took care of the equipment and Giuliano Giovannotti from the company that selected the competitors for the broadcast.

According to the reconstructions of the prosecutor, the accident would have occurred during the test of the "big cylinders". Marchetti "in jumping from one roller to another" lost his balance due to the surface made especially slippery in view of the challenge and fell into a pool just 1.09 meters deep. Marchetti suffered two crushed vertebrae, with a spinal cord injury that compressed his chest , preventing him from breathing. The man, who underwent a delicate surgery, remained paralyzed in the upper and lower limbs.
