“Non-urgent” interventions have been postponed for frail patients or those who do not have a Super green pass.
It happens at the Galeazzi Orthopedic Institute in Milan, led by the medical director and virologist Fabrizio Pregliasco. A decision, explains the structure, taken "to protect the patients themselves, given the epidemiological situation which sees an exponential increase in new cases of Covid-19 in the population".
However, no one will be refused, it is specified, it is only a reprogramming with the aim of minimizing the risks of contagion. "We do it for the safety of patients", underlined the virologist: "The indication given to the doctors of the reference teams is to make an overall assessment of the risks and benefits of the operation per patient. In the case of the frail and unvaccinated , at this time the risks could be greater ".
The IRCCS adds in a note that "these patients could determine the commitment of intensive care, which we must keep operational as much as possible, even for Covid-19 positive patients". "All other interventions that cannot be postponed, such as those of oncological orthopedics, oncological neurosurgery, the treatment of patients with osteoarticular infections and all traumatology interventions, as well as all access from the emergency room" will not be rescheduled. Even outpatient visits "are guaranteed to all patients, just as outpatient surgery is ensured with the presentation of a basic Green pass (ie with negative swab, ed) according to ministerial indications".
THE THREATS - But the choice, taken precisely to protect fragile and unvaccinated patients, has unleashed a wave of violence on Telegram chats, with new threats against Pregliasco. "My family is a little agitated - he said - and there is also regret for these unjustified attacks".
