The Carabinieri carried out a special operation in Cannobio , on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore. The alarm was raised after a 90-year-old woman spoke on the phone with a distant relative who lives in Milan. The elderly woman reported being home alone and unable to eat for three days.

The relative then alerted the police, who found the 90-year-old at home, not in a health or hygiene emergency but "in an evidently fragile state, in need of assistance but also of a listening ear and a presence ."

The ninety-year-old was taken to the hospital in Verbania for checks .

In the meantime, the Carabinieri managed to contact the children, who live abroad, and agreed with them on the need to find a solution to ensure the necessary assistance.
