He allegedly took advantage of the trust of some faithful with psychiatric problems or cognitive deficits, a widow, her son and another parishioner, to empty their accounts.
The former parish priest of Pinerolo, Don Paolo Bianciotto, 81 years old, is on trial for defrauding an incompetent person .
The investigation, as reported by Repubblica and Corriere della Sera, started from suspicious movements on the priest's account and on other accounts attributable to him, into which money from the parish and the association Nuova scuola Mauriziana would have also flowed .
However, this is a fact that can only be prosecuted with a complaint from a party, in this case from the bishop of Pinerolo, Derio Olivero, who did not file one. The money, according to the investigations, would have gone in part to some investments and, about ten years ago, also to the perpetual, not investigated, with gifts such as two houses, a car, two bars and more.
In the past, Don Bianciotto, former vicar of the then bishop of Pinerolo, Piergiorgio Debernardi, had been suspected of having falsified the signature of his superior in order to obtain a bank overdraft of 150,000 euros, on which an investigation had been opened after the bishop's complaint, later withdrawn.
