The Court of Assizes of Appeal of Bologna confirmed the 30-year sentence for Alessandro Leon Asoli, on trial for killing his stepfather Loreno Grimandi and attempting to murder his mother Monica Marchioni in Casalecchio di Reno, on 15 April 2021, with a plate of salmon penne poisoned with sodium nitrite.

In addition to the defence, the sentence had also been challenged by the Public Prosecutor's Office and the General Prosecutor's Office had requested life imprisonment.

During the hearing, the 21-year-old, defended by the lawyer Davide Bicocchi, confessed to the crime for the first time.

In his statements before the Court of Assizes of Appeal, Asoli also apologized and said that he had matured the decision to confess in a psychological journey in prison.
