Officers attacked with hammers at service station, shoot: three injured, one policeman seriously injured

Shooting along the Santhià motorway link road, at the Viverone Sud service station, in the Vercelli area .

Two police officers this morning were attacked with hammers by a man and shot in an attempt to stop him . All three were injured and taken to hospital, the attacker and a police officer in serious condition . On site, in addition to ambulances, also a 118 helicopter.

The motorway link road was closed from the Albiano junction towards Vercelli.

According to an initial reconstruction, the man, a French citizen, had arrived at the service station accompanied by a van, apparently following an accident . Here he allegedly went on a rampage , also getting into a car where there were some people on board. The two officers therefore intervened, but the man pulled out a hammer that he had under his jacket and attacked them, hitting one of them in the head . The other officer allegedly shot him, also grazing his colleague.
