The two lifeless bodies of the mountaineers missing on Gran Sasso on Sunday 22 December have been identified.

Since this morning, teams from the Alpine Rescue and the Guardia di Finanza have been operating at high altitude with the air support of an Abruzzo Region air ambulance with Alpine Rescue technicians on board and a Fire Brigade helicopter.

The victims are Cristian Gualdi, 48, and Luca Perazzini, 42, both from Sant'Arcangelo di Romagna.

We are now proceeding with the recovery operations of the two bodies.

"On behalf of the city of Rimini and the entire Province, I join in the grief of the families and friends of Cristian Gualdi and Luca Perazzini and of the entire community of Santarcangelo who in these days have gathered in an embrace and have never stopped hoping," said the mayor of Rimini Jamil Sadegholaad. The flags of the Municipality of Santarcangelo di Romagna are at half-mast and this evening the City Council will observe a moment of silence.
