It could cost "at most" 13.5 million euros to rent a ship for 90 days, with its crew, "to guarantee the movement of migrants rescued in the Mediterranean Sea" to the port of Shengjin, in Albania.
This is foreseen by the "preliminary market consultation" launched by the Interior Ministry to implement the protocol on migrants stipulated in recent months between Rome and Tirana , with a three-month contract at its core, from 15 September to 15 December 2024".
Excerpts from the document are reported by Ansa. The need to rent the ship, we read in the technical specifications for the service, is "non-binding and purely indicative" and the rental would be necessary when "the migrant pick-up point" is identified "about 15/20 nautical miles away" South-South/West from the island of Lampedusa".
The transport document speaks of "around 300 units" on board (200 migrants and 100 operators) and of "three or four trips per month (round trip)".
