Matteo Messina Denaro underwent surgery yesterday afternoon and now he expects a long stay in the L'Aquila hospital .

The former fugitive was transferred to the health facility from the super prison where he was detained under the 41 bis regime following the worsening of his health conditions considered "not compatible with hard prison as he must be assisted 24 hours a day", he explained his lawyer.

Furthermore, in the past few hours, the 70 pages of the report of the interrogation carried out after the arrest were filed : «I will never regret it – declared the boss – I did not kill Di Matteo's son. You only took me for sickness. The Mafia? I only met her from the newspapers», were the words spoken to the Palermo prosecutors.

«Matteo Messina Denaro has awakened from the operation which went very well, he is alert and active. He is in intensive care only for practice after such operations ». Thus the guarantor of the prisoners in Abruzzo, Gianmarco Cifaldi, after the operation to which the mafia boss was subjected to in the hospital in Aquila.

«The hospital stay depends on the combination of the health consultation and the insights of the Dap which must evaluate the actions to guarantee internal and external security - Cifaldi continues - All actions guarantee the constitutional rights both for the boss and for all free people". As for the request for release announced by Messina Denaro's defenders since the 41 bis regime would be incompatible with Messina Denaro's health conditions, Cifaldi underlines: «We guarantee the right to health with qualified medical personnel and all the state agencies are operating in compliance with the constitutional provisions, myself included".
