The Coronavirus epidemic has generated a "crisis", a "terrible experience of the challenges facing humanity, only a coordinated response at a global level has been able to cope with it , with the acceleration in the implementation work of the most recent research discoveries in which the European Union was the protagonist".

Thus Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of the National Day in memory of the victims of Covid , exactly four years after the macabre parade of military trucks full of coffins in Bergamo. «The synergistic and supportive effort of the institutions at every level has made it possible to contain an intangible enemy in the name of a global rebirth», added the Head of State.

This national day "calls the attention of our community to the terrible ordeal faced during the pandemic and constitutes an opportunity to be close to the families of the many who died due to the pervasive spread of Covid-19", says Mattarella again.

Remembering that it was a " painful page in the recent history of our country and the entire world " and highlighting how "the collective memory was marked by it".

"On this day - concludes Mattarella - the Republic commemorates the victims of the epidemic and renews feelings of deep condolences to all the family members".
