It was a despicable, futile, but not cruel murder, that of Martina Carbonaro, the 14-year-old killed by her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend Alessio Tucci , in Afragola, in the province of Naples, on May 26, 2025.
This is according to the North Naples Prosecutor's Office (Deputy Prosecutor Alberto Della Valle), which has closed the Casoria Carabinieri investigation into the girl's femicide. Martina was found lifeless, with serious head injuries, in an abandoned building that once housed the caretaker of the city's sports field.
There , Tucci struck her on the head with a rock, causing the serious injuries that led to her death hours later. Martina, in fact, didn't die instantly. She was unconscious but still alive when Tucci hid her under the pile of household goods, where she was later found, hours later, during the second of the investigations carried out in that building.
The 19-year-old ( who confessed, but only later ) is charged with voluntary homicide aggravated by four circumstances and concealment of a corpse: abject and futile motives; and impaired defense (caused by the abandoned place where she was killed, where she could not have gotten help). Then there are the aggravating circumstances related to the fact that Martina was a minor and also the person with whom the killer had a romantic relationship .
The cruelty that was initially hypothesized has disappeared since, according to what emerged from the autopsy, "those 3-4 blows inflicted on the head would have been functional to the crime and not a relentless attack on the victim" , explains Mario Mangazzo, Tucci's lawyer.
"The Prosecutor's Office recognizes that Martina was killed in a place that left her defenseless," emphasizes Sergio Pisani, the lawyer for the Carbonaro family, who has been pointing the finger at the municipal administration from the very beginning. "That site, despite NRRP funding, was abandoned and unsupervised." And this, for Pisani, raises a serious issue "of the Municipality's responsibility. I believe that the omissions that made that tragedy possible must also be clarified. The safety of public spaces is a duty ."
After fatally wounding Martina, Tucci removed his blood-stained clothes, lied to her parents, telling them he didn't know where she was, and even took part in the search for her when she was still missing. That day, Martina had gone out with a friend for yogurt. Surveillance video captures her leaving alone with Tucci to go to that final appointment.
