Eventually, the 70-year-old man, a resident of Somma Vesuviana (Naples), broke down after a lengthy interrogation, confessing to the incident, and was jailed for attempted murder.

His 60-year-old wife is hospitalized with a critical prognosis and is in life-threatening condition . The Carabinieri investigation, coordinated by the Nola prosecutor's office, also led to the recovery of the weapon used by the man, hidden in a tool shed.

The attack apparently occurred after an argument over trivial matters.
