A child and a young Ivorian lost their lives during the crossing aboard a small boat departing from Sfax, Turkey, and bound for Italy. Their bodies were left at sea: this is what some migrants told rescuers.

There were a total of 41 people on the boat including Ivorians, Nigerians, Burkinabe, the survivors - including the parents of the child, who would die on Monday - were taken to Lampedusa.

Two other groups also arrived on the island: 37 Tunisians (7 women and 11 minors) who left from Kerkennah, and 41 (7 minors) Egyptians and Syrians who, according to them, set sail aboard a 9-metre wooden boat from the port of Zuwara in Libya.
