A journalist from the newspaper La Stampa, Andrea Joly, was attacked in Turin outside a club called "Asso di Bastoni", frequented by militants from far-right circles.
According to what has been reconstructed, the journalist was passing in front of the venue at a time when a party was underway.
Some people apparently came out from inside and, after asking him who he was, ordered him to hand over the mobile phone with which he was shooting a video. They then threatened him and kicked him as he tried to walk away. Digos has started investigations into the incident.
The episode triggered immediate political reactions: «I express solidarity and closeness to Andrea Joly who was attacked and beaten by Casa Pound militants only for having filmed them with his cell phone while they were celebrating their anniversary outside the club», said the secretary of the Democratic Party Elly Schlein . Adding: «I also express great concern for the climate of impunity that we continue to experience in the face of such serious episodes: what else do we have to wait for neo-fascist organizations to be dissolved as the Constitution says? We ask President Giorgia Meloni and the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi to intervene immediately."
Solidarity with Joly also from the M5S, with President Giuseppe Conte speaking of a "serious and unacceptable episode". «But this is not an isolated case – continues Conte – the alarm bells about some anti-democratic tendencies in our country have already rung several times. Politics and healthy forces have the task of intervening to put an end to these delirious regurgitations of arrogance and violence."
