According to initial information, the stop in Venice was caused by poisoning on board , with four passengers and three crew members suffering from skin and airway irritation.
All the necessary checks are still underway.
The flight was reportedly changed course because people were feeling unwell , but no emergency procedure was triggered.
The flight, operated by British Airways , had left Gatwick airport at 8.47am Italian time.
