Housekeeper Throws Away An Elderly Woman's Old Mattress: Inside Are 50,000 Euros of Cash and Jewels

He had hidden around 50 thousand euros, between money and jewelry, in a mattress but had not considered the possibility that his carer would throw it in the landfill.

A happy-ending misadventure for an elderly woman from Montebelluna, in the province of Treviso: the woman had kept all her belongings in an old mattress that the housekeeper, given its condition, took to the recycling center, unaware of how much it contained.

So the unusual "piggy bank" ended up in the landfill: the elderly woman only noticed it in the late afternoon and nearly had a heart attack.

Alerted by her daughter, the Carabinieri of Montebelluna reopened the eco-centre and, with the help of the staff of the Ecology office of the Municipality and the volunteers of the Civil Protection , they managed to recover the precious mattress and, late in the evening, return all the money and valuables to the owner.
