Angelica Hutter, the German woman convicted for the triple fatal accident in 2023, had escaped from the rehabilitation community where she was being housed, the “Don Girelli” house in Ronco all'Adige (Verona). She was herself hit by a car on Sunday not far from the facility and is hospitalized in Verona in critical condition.

The facility's director, Giuseppe Ferro, confirmed this: "Ours," Ferro explained, "is a healthcare facility; it treats people, not 'contains' them. During the afternoon break, Angelica entered a hedge and climbed over the fence. We notified the Surveillance Court and the Carabinieri, and then we learned of the accident."

Two years ago, Hutter pleaded guilty to a four-year and eight-month sentence for hitting and killing Marco Antoniello, 47, his son Mattia, 2, and the child's grandmother, Mariagrazia Zuin, 67, on July 6, 2023, in Santo Stefano di Cadore, Belluno. She had been a resident of the Verona community since March 2024. "There were no obvious signs," Ferro emphasized, "but there was likely a stressful situation, for her as for all the psychiatric patients we treat, perhaps exacerbated by the holiday season. We monitor people, but above all, we treat them; we don't put up walls," he concluded.
