Three men tried to break into his home. He noticed and didn't think twice: he lunged at the strangers, punched them, and knocked one of them off the balcony. "I didn't think twice; I did it to protect my family," Liviu Aepetri, a 38-year-old Romanian truck driver who has been living in Italy since 2006, told the Gazzettino newspaper.
The incident occurred late Thursday evening in Oderzo, in the province of Treviso. Aepetri heard noises. "The tenant of the apartment above ours had left but still left some things; I thought he'd come to collect them. But the noise continued, so I went out onto the terrace and found myself facing three strangers," he told the newspaper. "It was dark because they'd even removed the outside light, so I couldn't see them properly."
His reaction was immediate: "I just thought they were thieves trying to break into our house, where my wife and three girls, aged 10, 8, and 2, live. Instinctively, I threw myself at the person closest to me, hitting him hard, knocking him off the terrace, a height of about three meters. The other two certainly weren't expecting me to react this way and tried to escape."
He also attacked them, hit them and forced them to flee.
