Tragedy in the waters of the Sesia stream, in the Vercelli area, a very popular destination for rafting and canyoning enthusiasts.

A 25-year-old boy from Turin drowned while he was going down the river while doing hydrospeed, a specialty that is practiced leaning on a kind of small floating bob that is maneuvered with the weight of the body and with the help of diving fins.

Activity that is enjoying great success. But the bob maneuvered by the young man overturned in the stretch of the Sesia in Scopetta and the boy was left with one leg stuck under a boulder, unable to free himself.

Firefighters, Alpine and Speleological Rescue, Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza did their utmost to rescue him, intervening after the call of his brother. But it was all in vain.

According to reports from the rescuers, the 25-year-old was engaged in a descent with the floating bob with his brother and a guide of a rafting school. In a leap of the river he lost the hydrospeed and ended up with his right leg under the rock.

The rescue teams did everything to free his limb, which in the meantime had fractured, and make it resurface in time to save his life, but all efforts were in vain.

The prosecutor of Vercelli has opened an investigation into the case, the carabinieri are investigating.

A tragedy that shook the Val Sesia, frequented by many river sports enthusiasts: “We are close to the family of the boy who died on the Sesia river this morning. A fatal accident which, despite the immediate intervention of the rescue, it was not possible to remedy ”, is the message of condolence of the Mountain Union of Municipalities of Valsesia.
