He died on his 24th birthday while taking part in a night race, the seventh edition of the Uno di Monticelli that takes place in Franciacorta.

The tragedy took place in Monticelli Brusati, in the Brescia area. The 24-year-old runner, Fabio Pedretti, collapsed to the ground while he was in the leading group and there were about 7 kilometers to go until the end of the race.

Cardiac arrest in the woods. Rescue from fellow competitors was immediate, including a cardiologist. Then the medical staff intervened, also helped by other athletes to carry the backpacks with the equipment for the first treatments along the difficult path.

They tried to revive the young athlete enrolled in the New Athletics Sulzano for a long time. When it seemed that the conditions, albeit serious, had stabilized, the race started to the hospital, to the nearby San Rocco di Ome Clinic. There, however, his heart stopped a second time and left him no more escape.

Three hundred athletes who had braved the cold for that run along the paths that also go into the woods: 27 and a half kilometers, an adventurous and demanding thing much loved by runners.
