A young man died after being shot by police officers in Milan, on Via Impastato, in the Rogoredo district.

The victim is believed to be a twenty-year-old of North African origin. According to an initial reconstruction, currently being examined by the prosecutor on duty, the young man approached a patrol of plainclothes officers engaged in an arrest during a drug-dealing operation, brandishing a pistol, which later turned out to be a blank.

The police officers, after ordering him to stop, reportedly opened fire, and the young man collapsed to the ground. An ambulance later arrived on the scene, but attempts to save the young man were unsuccessful.

Reactions to the incident were immediate, including political ones. "I'm on the policeman's side, no ifs, ands, or buts," stated League Secretary Matteo Salvini .

"I won't go into the specific incident. However, regarding the general security climate , the government has said that everything is fine, despite the increased numbers of rapes, robberies, and various other incidents of violence," was the first comment from M5S leader Giuseppe Conte .
