Her story sparked a conversation across Italy in 2023 and went viral on social media. Giuseppina Giugliano, 29 at the time, a janitor, commuted from Naples to Milan . "My salary," she said, "is €1,165 a month. It's better for me to commute and go home to my parents to sleep instead of renting a house in Milan."
The facts didn't turn out to be entirely true. And now "caretaker Giusy," as she was nicknamed by Italians, has been arrested for stalking . This has affected another well-known figure, the "courageous principal" of the Parco Verde school in Caivano (Naples), Eugenia Carfora . A woman whose story inspired the Rai 1 drama "La Preside."
Fanpage reported the story. In the fall of 2024, Giusy was assigned to the school run by Carfora. After several days of unexcused absence, the principal initiated the process to discipline her, and Giugliano was fired . She appealed to the courts, who ruled against her. Then the janitor began sending messages on social media and via email to the principal and the school. Carfora reported her for stalking, and the school assistant was issued a restraining order against her, prohibiting her from contacting them, or communicating via electronic means or text messages.
But the janitor, not content, repeatedly violated the restraining order by continuing to send messages. The principal filed another complaint, and this time Giusy Giugliano was arrested. She was held for two months in Secondigliano prison. The Court of Appeal recently released her from prison, placing her under house arrest while awaiting the conclusion of her trial.
