Massimiliano Mulas , the 45-year-old of Sardinian origins arrested in Mestre on charges of raping an 11-year-old girl , may have premeditated everything and his horrendous crime may not have been the result of improvisation.

This is what the website of the Veneto newspaper Il Gazzettino reports, collecting indiscretions that filter from the investigative environment.

The investigators' hypothesis is that the man had kept the girl under surveillance for days and that therefore the aggression and violence were organised and planned.

According to a reconstruction of the incident, the violence occurred on Thursday afternoon. The girl was returning home and on public transport she realized she was being followed. She then called a friend, and then rushed home. But the 45-year-old caught up with her and attacked her immediately after she entered the door.

As mentioned, the investigations by the Carabinieri of the Venice provincial command are concentrating on the days preceding the attack , precisely to ascertain whether the 45-year-old, already well known to the police, may have "monitored" the movements and habits of his young victim before acting.

Meanwhile, the gruesome story is arousing numerous reactions.

"He was a character "known" to the police. Why was he free and not in a criminal asylum?" , many are wondering, in Mestre and beyond.

"I hope she rots in jail, but not in Sardinia, where it is better that she does not return even to serve her sentence. A crime that for me can have neither forgiveness nor rehabilitation. Poor child! For rapists and pedophiles there is only one solution: chemical castration!", wrote instead on Facebook the former president of the regional council and exponent of the League Michele Pais.
