22 years in prison. This is the sentence, pronounced in Alessandria, against Paolo Riccone, the man tried on charges of stabbing to death his partner Floriana Floris, a Milanese of Sardinian origin.

The crime took place in Incisa Scapaccino (Asti) on 6 June last year but was discovered by the police only three days later, when the woman's relatives raised the alarm. Upon their arrival, the military found the 51-year-old in the bedroom, in a confused state. Floriana had some short videos on her mobile phone in which moments of an argument had been recorded which seemed to shortly precede the fatal attack.

The Court of Assizes granted the accused the generic mitigating circumstances prevailing over the aggravating circumstance of the family bond.

Before the judges entered the chamber, Riccone read a spontaneous statement apologizing to Floriana's relatives. The civil parties were compensated. The defense lawyer, Federica Falco, underlines that despite her consultant having ruled on the defendant's semi-mental infirmity at the time of the crime, the Court did not want to order an expert opinion. The lawyer announces that he will raise the issue on appeal.

For the moment Riccone remains detained in the psychiatry department of the Marassi prison.
