Filippo Turetta, the young man sentenced to life imprisonment in the first instance for the murder of Giulia Cecchettin, was reportedly attacked in Verona's Montorio prison by another 55-year-old inmate, who punched him.

The newspaper L'Arena revealed today. The attack apparently took place in August, in the fourth section of the prison, where Turetta had been transferred after a stint in the "protected" section . The attacker is serving a final sentence for murder and attempted murder.

The perpetrator of the attack had reportedly expressed displeasure a few days earlier over Turetta's presence among the inmates in his section . Following the violent episode, he was ordered transferred to solitary confinement for 15 days.

After a week in solitary confinement, the inmate was reportedly transferred to a single cell, which had been damaged by the previous inmate. He reportedly asked to be transferred again, and in protest, he stopped eating and drinking, also refusing to take the medications he had been prescribed.
