Filippo Turetta renounces his appeal and accepts the life sentence he was given in the first degree for the murder of Giulia Cecchettin .

The announcement was made in a letter signed by Turetta himself, sent to the judicial offices of the Tribunal and Court of Appeal of Venice. The young man spoke of "sincere remorse" and then concluded that he wished to renounce the appeal.

This was a real turn of events, as his lawyers had appealed the sentence, seeking to rule out premeditation to avoid a life sentence . The appeal trial is scheduled to begin on November 14th, and the Prosecutor's Office has also appealed the first-instance sentence for failing to recognize the aggravating circumstances of cruelty and stalking.

Turetta has been detained in Montorio prison since November 25, 2023.
