Tense moments erupted in the emergency room of Giulianova Hospital (Teramo), where a father verbally assaulted a doctor after she requested further diagnostic tests for his son, prescribed to rule out possible complications. The man began insulting the doctor, almost engaging in physical contact, which was prevented by the intervention of a nurse. Security personnel and the Carabinieri subsequently arrived on the scene and identified the attacker.
"Just days before the National Day of Education and Prevention against Violence against Healthcare and Social Health Workers," commented Stefano Matteucci, regional secretary of UGL Salute, "we are unfortunately forced to report yet another serious incident of aggression against those who work to provide care and assistance to citizens. The latest incident, which occurred yesterday at the Giulianova Emergency Room, once again confirms how doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers continue to be exposed to risks and violence, often in the very places designated to protect healthcare. This situation, despite warnings and awareness-raising initiatives, remains unacceptable and can no longer be underestimated."
"As UGL Salute," Matteucci stated, "we strongly reiterate that healthcare workers cannot perform their duties in fear of being attacked. It is essential to concretely strengthen safety measures in healthcare facilities, ensuring adequate surveillance and effective prevention tools."
