Roberta Guaineri, former Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Milan in the first council of Mayor Giuseppe Sala, died due to an illness while on holiday in Sardinia at the age of 57.

Guaineri, a lawyer, was a sports enthusiast who practiced it herself and followed the race for the Olympic bid to host the 2026 Milan-Cortina winter games, which the city then won. After the tragic news, mayor Beppe Sala remembered her on his social pages by posting a photo of the two of them together, during the celebrations after winning the bid to host the winter games.

«I lost a beloved friend - wrote the mayor - who was a Councilor in my first council, but our relationship was much more than a professional relationship. A few months ago we had been together in Siena for a cycling race and only ten days ago she had come to me at Palazzo Marino and told me about her health problems. But not so soon, Roberta! We have to move on, but I know you will leave a void that I don't even dare describe. I will look at this photo for a long time – concluded Sala – which crystallizes a moment of great happiness for us."
