Clio Napolitano , wife of former President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, died in Rome after a long illness.

A whole life always spent at the side of her husband , from whom only death had separated her a little less than a year ago, on September 22, 2023 , she would have turned 90 in November .

In her youth she attended the classical high school in Jesi, then the Federico II law school in Naples, where she met the love of her life and future husband Giorgio. The two would meet again years later in Rome , where he had begun his political career and she was an intern in a law firm.

The wedding in 1959 with a civil ceremony in the Campidoglio , as was customary for officials of the Italian Communist Party. Shortly after the birth of their two sons, Giovanni and Giulio .

After her husband's election as President of the Italian Republic, Mrs. Clio became a regular presence at public events and state trips .

Not very attentive to the protocols of the Quirinal, after a few years living in the wing of the palace reserved for presidents, she and her husband chose to move to the apartment in the Palazzo della Panetteria, in fact on one of the sides of the Quirinal, where she felt freer from protocols and formalities.
