The former manager of the economic and financial sector of Bovino, a municipality in the province of Foggia, already suspended, is targeted.
Marco Russo, 54, was arrested last Friday on charges of embezzlement and self-laundering by the financial police. In just three years - investigators reconstruct - from 2018 to 2020, he stole over one million and 200 thousand euros from the Municipality, taking them from municipal current accounts and paying them into his own.
He would have "rounded up" his salary (just under 2 thousand euros) with "extra" income, arriving, on one occasion, in recognizing in just one month ancillary allowances for overtime for 41 thousand euros.
The man during the interrogation under guarantee to the investigating judge Maria Luisa Bengivenga also declared - the defense said - that he wanted to return the entire sum stolen. Meanwhile, the judge granted him house arrest.
