The young woman who struck and killed a 75-year-old man in Leini, Turin, on Christmas night, as he was leaving Mass, without stopping to provide assistance, has turned herself in to the Carabinieri. The woman, a 21-year-old resident of Volpiano (Turin), has been reported.
The elderly man had been struck by the pedestrian crossing at the roundabout between Via Lombardore and Via Coppi and dragged for over twenty meters: he died instantly. The young woman provided officers with directions to find the car he had used, a gray Fiat Grande Punto registered to her mother, which had been abandoned in a suburban area of Leini.
The vehicle was seized. Investigations by Carabinieri officers from the Leini station and the Venaria company's mobile radio unit revealed that the driver's twenty-year-old brother and another 18-year-old girl, a friend of the two, were also on board.
The three were reported at large for failure to provide assistance, while the twenty-one-year-old is also charged with vehicular homicide.
The investigation is being coordinated by the Ivrea Public Prosecutor's Office.
