Driving his mother's car without a license: 18-year-old hits and kills a cyclist

Tragedy in Villorba, in the Treviso area , where a 71-year-old cyclist died after being hit by the car of an 18-year-old without a license.

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon.

The man's body , after the violent impact, was thrown over the fence of the garden of a private house at the side of the road, and resuscitation attempts were in vain.

The young man , who lost control of the car perhaps due to a speed bump in the road and his lack of driving experience, had taken the car, a Fiat 500, without his mother's knowledge.
The small car crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the unfortunate cyclist at full speed, leaving him without the time or space to avoid the impact.

Local police officers and carabinieri intervened on site, interrupting traffic to allow for surveys and secure the area.

The Treviso Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into vehicular homicide . The young man will also face charges of driving without a license and numerous traffic violations. The prosecutor did not order an arrest—which is optional in this case—since the young man has no criminal record and did not attempt to flee.
