The government's orientation was known and the news had been in the air for weeks, now the official announcement has arrived. Directly through the mouth of Prime Minister Mario Draghi who, speaking in Florence in front of an audience of entrepreneurs who welcomed his words with a long applause, said that the Covid state of emergency will not be extended beyond 31 March.

"The goal is to reopen everything. The epidemiological situation is improving sharply thanks to the success of the vaccination campaign and offers us margins to remove the residual restrictions on the lives of citizens and businesses," said the premier.

Big news is coming, therefore, starting from schools: “They will always remain open for everyone, contact quarantines will be eliminated and the obligation of Ffp2 masks in the classroom will cease”, said Draghi. Also from April, he added, "the obligation of outdoor masks will cease everywhere and the system of colored areas will no longer be in force".

The League applauds and takes a step forward, calling for the abolition of the Green pass. But on this aspect Draghi slows down, the criterion will be that of progressivity: “We will gradually put an end to the obligation to use the reinforced Green pass starting from outdoor activities, including fairs, sports, parties and shows”.

In any case, the head of government assured, "we will continue to carefully monitor the pandemic situation, ready to intervene in the event of a resurgence".

In the meantime, the numbers speak of less and less pressure on hospitals: hospitalizations have been down for four weeks and in the last 7 days the decline has been 12%.

But watch out for the 10 million Italians who have yet to booster, recalls Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa: “This is why the easing will be gradual. With the end of the emergency a new phase will begin, but on some aspects a clear distinction must be made. For those over 50 in the workplace, the obligation to obtain a reinforced certificate lasts until June 15th ".
