Hands forward 60 minutes, at 2 am tomorrow night, to change the time. The sun, therefore, will rise and set later and according to Terna in the 7 months in which summer time will be in force, Italy will save over 190 million euros with a lower consumption of electricity equal to about 420 million kilowatt hours, which they are equivalent to the average annual needs of about 150 thousand families.
In practice, “by moving the hands forward by an hour, the use of artificial light is delayed at a time when work activities are still in full swing”.
The European Commission recently assessed the abolition of the time change with a resolution passed by Parliament with 410 votes in favor, 192 against and 51 abstentions. A referendum was also held in 2018, in which however only 5 million citizens took part, especially from Northern European countries: 84% said they were in favor of canceling the system. But then the line prevailed whereby each state decides independently. In Italy, for now, the old time change still remains.
