Conduct vote, government crackdown on bullies: anyone who gets a 6 postponed to September
The suspension will no longer lead to removal from school, on the contrary: the student will be involved in extra activities related to civic educationThe government toughens the penalties for bullies and those who don't behave well in class, with 5 having more "severe" behavior and 6 "postponing" until September.
Here are the planned changes: the conduct grade also reaches middle schools, will be expressed in tenths and will have weight on the credits for admission to the high school leaving exam.
The current legislation provides that the rejection, following the 5 for conduct, is implemented exclusively in the presence of serious acts of violence or the commission of crimes. With the reform, however, it is established that the assignment of a 5, and therefore the consequent failure, can also occur in the event of behavior that constitutes serious and repeated violations of the Institute Regulations.
The 6 in conduct will generate a school debt, in high school in the field of civic education, which will have to be recovered in September with a test that will focus on citizenship values. Only those who get a 9 or 10 in conduct will be entitled to the maximum credits that are averaged in the final grade for the maturity.
The suspension will no longer lead to a temporary and total removal from school: the suspended student will be involved in school activities - assigned by the class council - of reflection and in-depth analysis on the issues related to the behaviors that caused the provision. A path that will end with the production of a paper. If the suspension exceeds 2 days, the student will have to carry out solidarity citizenship activities at affiliated facilities.
«With the reform of the conduct grade and suspension we are bringing back the culture of respect in schools and strengthening the authority of teachers. It is a long-awaited turning point for Italian society", Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni commented in the Council of Ministers.
