Hours of fear in San Giuliano, on the outskirts of Milan, due to a fire in a petrochemical company, the "Nitrolchimica".

An explosion was heard around 10 in the morning, then flames broke out, with at least three employees injured , one of them in serious condition.

On the spot, after the alarm, several fire brigade teams intervened, while a black smoke, visible from miles away, created great concern.

The mayor of San Giuliano Milanese, Marco Segala, invited citizens via Facebook "to close the windows to avoid possible fumes and not to approach the area affected" by the fire that broke out this morning in the industrial area.

"The authorities in charge and the police are already in place to coordinate the operations necessary for its shutdown and for the safety of the area", added the mayor.

The traffic police also intervened on the spot, to ensure the viability of emergency vehicles, the local police and, thanks also to the collaboration of the Municipality of Milan, civil protection.

"We heard a roar, then the sky turned black," some witnesses said.

We are now investigating to clarify the causes and dynamics of what happened.
