"Satisfaction" with the defense's defense being upheld and the hope that "my complete innocence will soon be recognized, within the timeframe necessary for the Court to ascertain the facts."
This is what Cardinal Angelo Becciu told his lawyers, Fabio Viglione and Maria Concetta Marzo , when interviewed by ANSA after the Vatican Court of Appeals' decision to recognize the substantial annulment of the first-instance trial against the Sardinian prelate.
"The Court of Appeal," the cardinal's lawyers say, " has upheld the objections we raised from the outset , declaring the summons null and void and ordering a new trial. It has thus recognized a fundamental principle: the full exercise of the right of defense cannot allow the prosecution to select documents . We are not talking about merely formal aspects, but rather about rules protecting the effectiveness of the right of defense."
