Avalanche in Cortina: two skiers dead, third survives

Two of the three ski mountaineers swept away yesterday afternoon by an avalanche at Forcella Giau, above Cortina d'Ampezzo, died last night. They are Elisa De Nardi, a thirty-eight-year-old from Conegliano Veneto, and Abel Ayala Anchundia, a forty-year-old from Vittorio Veneto (both from the province of Treviso).
A fifty-year-old, also from Conegliano Veneto, is hospitalized in Pieve di Cadore (Belluno) for hypothermia and trauma to an ankle. Elisa De Nardi died in the hospital in Treviso, while Abel Ayala Anchundia, originally from Ecuador, died in the hospital in Mestre around midnight.
The tragedy occurred at an altitude of 2,300 meters : the alarm was raised, around 13:00 yesterday, by a fourth ski mountaineer of the group who immediately began searching for his companions. Who were then found by rescuers. They had reached Cortina for an excursion.
