The new cardinals recently appointed by Pope Francis in the consistory of 27 August for lunch with the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella .
The Head of State hosted the prelates, including the archbishop emeritus of Cagliari Arrigo Miglio , at the Palazzo del Quirinale, in the traditional breakfast in honor of the newly appointed Italian cardinals.
In addition to Miglio, the Colle was visited by Oscar Cantoni, Bishop of Como, Giorgio Marengo, Apostolic Prefect of Ulaanbaatar, Gianfranco Ghirlanda, former Rector of the Pontifical Gregorian University, and Fortunato Frezza, canon of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
Also present at the lunch were Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of His Holiness, Monsignor Emil Paul Tscherrig, Apostolic Nuncio to Italy, and Francesco Di Nitto, Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See.
