Anomalous theft in Naples in the world-famous nativity scene street.
Last night someone stole all the cast iron manhole grates in via San Gregorio Armeno. The artisans were greatly surprised when they went to open their workshops this morning.
To avoid danger to passers-by, the holes left by the absence of the grates were cordoned off.
The thief's action was filmed by some video surveillance cameras: it was a man, alone, who took away the grates using an Ape motorbike before three in the morning.
But a similar episode was recorded just four days ago in Vico San Nicola alla Dogana, near the port. It is not clear whether these are different people.
It seems that there is a thriving black market on which stolen pig iron is resold. It is one of the favorite metals because it is easier to resell. Furthermore, in recent years the value of cast iron has practically doubled, going from 250 to 500 euros per ton.
