Several people took to the streets in the center of Avellino and in several municipalities in the Irpinia region after the earthquake recorded at 9:49 PM, which had a definitive magnitude of 4.0.

The epicenter of the earthquake was recorded by INGV instruments one kilometer south of Montefredane , a municipality in the Sabato Valley a few kilometers from Avellino, in the same area where previous tremors had occurred. Fire department switchboards received hundreds of calls from people seeking information.

Both Italo Giulivo, head of the Campania Civil Protection Department, and Mario Bellizzi, head of the Avellino fire brigade, emphasized that no particular damage has been reported at this time, but investigations are still ongoing.

The shock was clearly felt by the population and also in the provinces of Naples, Salerno and Benevento .
