A girl of about 3 years old died this evening after being hit by a car in the province of Prato, along regional road 325, in the Le Piana area, in Mercatale di Vernio.

The collision occurred after—according to initial reports— the little girl escaped her mother's control by crossing the street just as a car was approaching. The little girl's body was reportedly thrown several meters. The alarm was immediately raised and emergency services were called.

Despite resuscitation efforts by paramedics from a Red Cross ambulance in Vernio and then a Misericordia ambulance in Vaiano, which lasted over an hour, the little girl died. The Carabinieri of Vernio also arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation. The little girl's mother felt unwell while they were assisting her daughter.
