The alleged perpetrator of the harpoon attack that took place a few hours earlier in the parking lot of a supermarket in Bergamo was arrested yesterday evening .

Thanks to witness statements and video surveillance footage, which captured the assailant's fleeing car, the Carabinieri were able to identify a 59-year-old resident of Terno d'Isola as the alleged perpetrator .

According to the reconstruction that has emerged so far, the victim, a 60-year-old resident of the Lecco area, was in the shopping center parking lot with his 56-year-old wife when he was suddenly struck in the abdomen by a harpoon gun fired from a moving Fiat Punto, which had immediately fled the scene.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and transported the injured man, who had a yellow code, to the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, where he underwent surgery. The man's injuries are currently not believed to be life-threatening.

A personal and home search of the 59-year-old man led to the seizure of 11 knives of various sizes, a machete, and a spear gun , believed to be compatible with the one used in the attack. The car used was also seized.

The man was ordered transferred to prison in Bergamo.
