Italia Viva, Evangelista: "The right will win, but I very much doubt it will be able to govern"

"The most extreme part of the center-right will win hands down, with a but: later we'll see if it will be able to form a government and, above all, to keep it standing." Senator Elvira Evangelista is counting on the fact that it will not be like this: "It is a sovereign right, extreme, conservative", says the 54-year-old senator from Nuoro, elected among the Cinquestelle with whom she broke up at the beginning of the year, and now in Italy Viva con Matteo Renzi: «The right in power would immediately cause various problems at national and international level». Cassation lawyer, 54 years old, never before in elective positions but active in the field of civil rights, Evangelista knows that, with the candidacy for second place in the Third Pole (Iv and Calenda) in the single Sardinian college for the Senate, it will be very difficult for a second mandate: «Mine is a service candidacy, and I am very committed to Italia Viva in this electoral campaign. It was difficult to win a seat, with the reduction in the number of parliamentarians and this electoral law, but even in the previous elections I was second on the list and M5S in my college got 52 thousand votes, and I was elected. We will see everything on Sunday in the vote ».
Who will see you take what percentage?
"So, if we talk about national figures, we aspire to 10-12%".
And in Sardinia?
“Ah, this is an unknown. I would like to have the same figure that I hope for at the national level, which would make it possible to elect the leaders and perhaps even a second candidate to the House. The fact is that, due to the trends that exist, the Island cannot be assimilated either to the North or to the South, and then here as elsewhere it is not clear how much the Cinquestelle Movement is growing, which once again is doing it to the detriment of the vote for the Democratic Party, without affecting the preferences for the center-right. And then we are unable to understand how the League will go, and not even the Brothers of Italy ».
Speaking of Cinquestelle, why did you break up with the movement in January?
“Because I had been elected in an anti-system and in a certain sense revolutionary movement, then I found myself in a real party moved to the radical left, especially when it comes to issues such as justice, of which I was deputy chairman of the commission. Finally, I saw M5s become Conte's party. At that point, I packed my bags and went to Italy alive ».
No regrets.
«With many regrets, but for the drift taken by the Movement, not for me who was looking for and seeking consistency. I come from the courtrooms, so I already had a social function, and I had dealt with many issues such as school and the role of women. For this reason, I had entered as an activist in M5s, only to leave it when it became something else ».
What are the Sardinian themes on which Iv will work ?
"Certainly to fill the principle of insularity inserted in the Constitution with contents, a victory in which we have all contributed in Sardinia and in the other islands, but which must now be declined with laws and decrees that allow us to fill many infrastructural gaps, especially in transport and in justice ".
Health is regional.
«Okay, but at national level a lot can be done, starting with investments in machinery and structures. And then, and this is a problem in the country but which is felt more on the island, you have to sit around a table and make the number scheduled in the medical faculties much less severe. Although, in reality, the problem concerns more specialized schools, for which I recognize that the Region has done a lot, but more must be done. Unless we decide that doctors are no longer needed. "
And then there is the transport hub.
“Even internal, not only linked to territorial continuity as regards airplanes. In the Commission, in the Senate, I made inquiries and observations on the RFI program, that is Italian railway networks, especially on the absence of state tracks along the east coast. RFI had shown a certain openness, provided however to connect the west ridge with the east one without narrow gauge from Nuoro to Macomer, however it posed a problem of cost-benefit ratio. But not everything has to agree economically immediately, when it comes to infrastructures ».
And then?
“And then Conte, with Salvini and Forza Italia, led Prime Minister Draghi to resign and to early elections at the best of times. And goodbye to the negotiations with RFI: we have lost favorable conditions which, perhaps, will never reappear ».
So, was not voting for Draghi a mistake?
«It was a very serious operation that began with a provocation by the Cinquestelle, who had been looking for a parliamentary incident for months to send us to the polls and capitalize on Conte's consent. They had tried with the waste-to-energy plant in Rome, but it was not enough, so they tried again with arms to Ukraine, meanwhile Di Maio took away sixty parliamentarians. At that point, with the help of Lega and Forza Italia, they created the accident on trust to go to the vote immediately, before the consensus dropped. And here we are, at the polls, early in a war, an economic and food crisis caused by the conflict. Bad business, especially for the Sardinians ».
