The principle in the Constitution and the inclusion (with a correction requested by the islanders) of the word "insularity" in the Calderoli decree are not enough. We need to be on the alert, constantly monitor that differentiated autonomy, and every law, every regulation, every programme, every spending commitment, have the objective of overcoming all economic and social gaps and truly guarantee equal rights to all Italian citizens . Especially in terms of transport

This is why a joint Sardinia-Sicily Observatory was created, which will monitor all the steps taken not only by Parliament and the Government, but also by companies and public bodies .

The body was presented today to the Chamber of Deputies by Michele Cossa, of the promoting committee for the inclusion of the principle of insularity in the Constitution, who also underlined the role that the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari will have in the project, by Gaetano Armao , president of the Sicilian insularity association, by Giannina Usai, regional secretary of the national association of the municipalities of the smaller islands. The Sardinian parliamentarians Pietro Pittali, Francesca Ghirra and Marco Meloni were present (who with their colleague Silvio Lai proposed a bicameral commission for insularity) and the representatives of various trade associations, which contributed so much in the battle.

«A new phase of work begins - explains Cossa - which sees the two major islands engaged in the forefront with the aim of giving substance to the principle of insularity. For the first time Sardinia and Sicily are moving together and, although starting from different conditions, they aim to pursue a common goal . The policies for insularity must become a substantial fact, which gives substance to the commitment sanctioned by the Constitution".

«Sardinia and Sicily will work together to verify not only the national legislation but also all the plans and provisions that are adopted by the State and by the agencies that invest in the area: energy, transport, infrastructure in the various sectors. In this way we will have the elements needed to understand the actions that are being implemented and formulate proposals and ask for adjustments», underlines Armao.
