Sardinia and the theme of insularity at the center of the annual event of the European Week of Regions and Cities, dedicated to the regional policy of the European Union.

The Island, chosen by the Committee of the Regions , is the leader of the partnership of the peripheral island regions of the Mediterranean consisting of Corsica (France), the Balearic Islands (Spain), Gozo (Malta), the Ionian Islands and Crete (Greece), and will have the task to organize a top-level political conference on the subject of insularity.

Initiative to be held in October and which will be included among the 16 main events: the presidents and the highest political offices of the governments of the island partnership will speak, and the following debate will be attended by MEPs of the European Parliament, members of the Committee of the Regions and high representatives of the Commission European.

"We continue the path we started knowing that Europe still has a long way to go to reach that desired path of reform of European policies, capable of ensuring equal rights and opportunities for over 20 million European citizens spread over approximately 2,400 islands belonging to 13 Member States, ”Governor Christian Solinas said.

A commitment that sees the Region once again addressing the specific challenges and needs of the island.
