Exploit of the industrial sector of Sardinia, which in 2024 records a +4.7%. And, for the Island, a positive sign also in terms of cumulative growth of the GDP, with +0.8% in 2024 and +7.7% in the three-year period 2022-2024.

This is revealed in the latest Svimez report on the GDP of the Regions , relating to last year, underlining how between 2022-2024 the GDP grew overall by 8.6% in the South, against 5.6% in the Center-North . Last year instead +1% for the South compared to 0.6% in the Center-North.

The national industry, the report notes, "marks a substantial stagnation at a national level (-0.1%), with similar trends between macro-areas: (-0.2% in the Center-North and +0.1% in the South), but with much more significant impacts in the North due to the greater weight on the local economy . The contractions of Lombardy (-0.9%), Emilia-Romagna (-1.3%) and Piedmont (-1.8%) stand out".

Among the regions of the Centre, the exception is Lazio (+5.2%), while the most marked decline is recorded in Umbria (-3.6%). In the South, industry grows in Calabria (5.8%), Sardinia (+4.7%) and Sicily (+2.7%) and declines especially in Campania (-1.9%) and Abruzzo (-1.8%).

"The stalemate of the Italian industry - Svimez highlights - is reflected in the contraction of exports (-1.1% on 2023), which mainly penalizes the export economies of the North, where the contribution of foreign demand, expressed as a percentage of the regional GDP, exceeds 30%", the analysis underlines. Again, "with the exception of Lombardy, where the variation in exports remains positive (+0.6%), Piedmont (-4.9%), Veneto (-1.8%) and Emilia-Romagna (-2%) suffer the most significant contractions . The drop in exports linked to the automotive supply chain weighs on the North-East area, which is collaterally affected by the German industrial crisis in the sector".

The better growth performance of the South is determined by the greater stimulus offered by construction (+3% against +0.6% in the Centre-North) . The dynamics of services is higher than the figure for the Centre-North (+0.7% against +0.5%).

In 2024, public investments reached approximately 45 billion: just under half of the resources were mobilized by municipal administrations (21.7 billion); public investments grew by approximately 6 billion compared to 2023 (+3 billion for municipalities).

IN 3 YEARS +7.7% – In the three-year period 2022-2024 , in terms of cumulative GDP growth, Sicily (+11.2%), Campania (+9.5%) and Abruzzo (+9.2%) recorded results above the average for the South. But - the Svimez report underlines - the performances of Sardinia (+7.7%) and Puglia (+7%) were also positive, which, although below the average for the area , still exceeded the average growth rate of the Center-North.
