In Southern Italy, only one in three women in the 15-64 age group works. It is the merciless photograph of the employment of women in the South by the Confcommercio Study Center.

The employment rate of women in the South “dropped to 33% against a rate of 59.2% in the Center-North and 63% in the European Union of 27”. So 30 points less in Europe, almost 30 less than the rest of Italy.

The data is contained in a report on the South and the Pnrr on the 2019 data, in which it is emphasized that in Calabria the rate has even dropped compared to 2007, going from 31% to 30.3%.

The participation of women in the labor market in the South is "absurdly low", says the study center.
Carlo Sangalli, president of Confcommercio also underlines that "the Covid crisis has further weakened the South in terms of employment, productive capital and income. With the PNRR it is possible to recover lost ground".
The Confederation then revises its GDP estimates for this year downwards: from 4% estimated in December to 3.5-3.7%. The government currently expects growth of 4.7%.
